"Leaders aren't born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal." — Vince Lombardi
If we are going to grow and develop in anything: sports, a new skill, our jobs, and especially leadership, we need to work on our TEE Shot. If we want to continue to grow and develop, we need three things, Time, Energy, and Effort. We need to put our Time, Energy, and Effort into whatever it is we are trying to develop. If you follow golf at all, you have probably heard of a tee shot. Your tee shot really defines how the hole is going to go. Well, how do we ensure we have a good tee shot? We practice! We go to the driving range, hit balls, make adjustments, and hit some more balls. There is an old fable about a grasshopper and an ant. The ant spends its summer days working hard, collecting and storing food for the winter, while the grasshopper spends its time singing and enjoying the warm weather. When winter arrives, the grasshopper finds itself starving and approaches the ant for help. The ant reminds the grasshopper that it should have worked and prepared during the summer, while the ant's hard work allows it to survive the winter comfortably. This fable serves as a reminder of the importance of hard work, discipline, and preparation. There is a time for work and a time for play. Leaders are made through consistent effort and the ability to plan ahead for challenges.
